An interview with Heather, an awesome community eco champion

A Good Thing has an amazing network of volunteers who spread the word about our work by using their communication and digital marketing skills to engage charities and businesses. This month we catch up with Heather to hear about her super success.

Tell us a little bit about yourself:

Hi, I'm Heather from North Yorkshire and I live in the Midlands. I have a degree in Psychology and work as an Intervention Assistant for a Special Needs School.

Why did you choose to volunteer with A Good Thing?

I love that A Good Thing is a new and upcoming charity, and wanted to be a part of its journey and growth. The idea of having a simple way to support local charities whilst reducing waste sent to landfill is amazing. Volunteering for A Good Thing makes me feel like I'm giving back to charities, as well as caring for our planet, so it's a win-win. I also felt very welcomed by the staff and founders of A Good Thing as they are very friendly and genuine.

What’s your role as part of the volunteering programme?

My role is to promote A Good Thing in my local area. As I've lived in multiple areas in the UK and use social media as part of my own business, I have been able to spread awareness on a large scale. I engage with posts and create my own content to share with friends and family. Additionally, I contact businesses and charities via my A Good Thing email address to make them aware of the benefits of signing up.

What do you hope to learn from your volunteering experience?

I hope to create connections and gain experience in the charity sector and also develop my online marketing skills. I'm excited to discover new ways of supporting A Good Thing and be part of a growing charity.

Tell us about a success you’ve had in the role so far:

Since joining A Good Thing I've had multiple friends, charities and businesses interested in this new idea. Recently, I met someone in my area who was also keen to volunteer and I helped them onto the volunteering programme. Together we have promoted A Good Thing and we have supported new charities and businesses to sign up and get started.

Thank you Heather for being an awesome volunteer!
