Furniture makes a real difference to amazing Telford charity

When Shropshire firm David Austin Roses donated five drawer units to Telford Crisis Support via A Good Thing before Christmas, a real impact was made on a brilliant charity.

Rich Mulliner, Facilities Executive at David Austin Roses, told us why the units had been rehomed:

“We ended up with the spare furniture due to some departments putting information onto computer files instead of needing to store paper documents. We would normally have just thrown the office equipment into the skip and it would have been recycled.”

It was fantastic that the firm was able to avoid the skip: instead they were matched with a volunteer-led charity in Telford doing really amazing work in that community. Telford Crisis Support, set up in 2013, runs a baby and toddler bank and a pre-loved school uniform scheme. It provides help with home energy and re-homing, and provides support for bed poverty community projects, community events, and much more.

The charity’s vision is that “No one in the borough of Telford and Wrekin should need to go without the basic essentials to keep themselves and their families sheltered, fed, clean, clothed, warm and healthy.”

Simon Lellow, Operations Manager at Telford Crisis Support, told us what a difference the units had made:

“We used the units to store stock for our Winter Coats and Shoes project. Having suitable storage that’s visible and accessible means we can collate and distribute the support much more efficiently, leaving the staff and volunteers more time to spend on other elements of our support services.”

Simon added that A Good Thing was very aligned with the charity’s ethos:

“At Telford Crisis Support we are committed to minimizing our environmental impact. We are keen to reuse and repurpose where possible to support this aim: using the service A Good Thing provides is a perfect way of facilitating this.”

Rich from David Austin Roses was equally positive about the platform:

“The experience of using the platform was very good and the instructions were very easy to follow.”
