Volunteer spotlight! Beca Montenegro

Why did you choose to volunteer with A Good Thing?

I was looking to gain some experience in a more admin-based setting but stumbled upon A Good Thing’s volunteering page in the process. The goals that A Good Thing is trying to achieve (reducing waste while aiding those less fortunate at the same time) really resonated with me. I thought it was a really clever way of tackling two large issues that we face in modern society.

What’s your role as part of the volunteering programme?

I help out with social media graphics, translating the wonderful blogs other volunteers write about A Good Thing's impact into dynamic, playful and easy-to-digest social media posts, helping spread the word and attract new subscribers.

What do you hope to learn from your volunteering experience?

This experience has already taught me a lot about the way charities and non-profit organisations operate on different social media platforms, and how there is an incredible network of organisations that support each other and amplify each other's voices online. I've also learned that it's all about teamwork, and every small contribution is what makes things happen.

Tell us about a success you’ve had in the role so far.

I believe I've contributed to making our social media platforms look cohesive and engaging, creating templates that can be altered and reused. I'm also glad I can help Lucy, who works really hard to make sure A Good Thing's social media is consistent, up to date, and always looking great and on brand!
