Promotional items with purpose, thanks to Allwag
A Good Thing is an online platform that allows businesses to give things away to their local charities. Less to landfill, more to a good cause! The case study below is an example of the wonderful impact that can be made through these matches.
When Chelmsford-based Allwag Promotions joined A Good Thing in June 2023, it wasted no time putting its values into practice. A certified B Corp, BPMA member and signatory to the BPMA’s StepForward Pledge, Allwag has shown a strong commitment to using business as a force for good.
Over the past few months, Allwag has donated an extraordinary variety of items via the platform, including coffee mugs, branded Converse shoes, headphones, hygiene packs, notebooks, bags, hand fans, bottle-opener keyrings, shoe polish, water bottles and pen pots, ensuring that surplus stock finds a meaningful new purpose in the community.
A great opportunity
For Allwag, the donation process was straightforward and deeply rewarding, as Operations Executive Sasha Staines explained:
“The donation process was very smooth. We kept track of the stock levels our end, and coordinated dates and times with charities to collect. We recently cleared out one of our warehouses, which led to the items being listed and donated rather than being thrown away. It’s a great opportunity to give back to the community and we appreciate how thankful the charity representatives are.”
Supporting women through Women of Grace UK
Many of the donated items found a new home with Women of Grace UK, a charity dedicated to empowering and uplifting women, particularly those affected by gender-based violence, FGM, trauma and displacement. Through advocacy, practical support and skills-building programmes, Women of Grace helps women regain confidence and rebuild their lives.
Deep community impact
Founder and CEO Valerie Lolomari explained the difference made by the donations:
“Using the A Good Thing platform has been seamless and truly impactful. The donations we received from Allwag have been a blessing, ranging from essential items to wellbeing products that have supported the women and families we work with. These contributions have helped restore dignity, especially for those navigating trauma, poverty and isolation. We’re incredibly grateful for platforms like A Good Thing and generous organisations like Allwag, whose support helps us extend our reach and deepen our impact in the community.”
Backing families through the Little Edi Foundation
Another major recipient of Allwag’s generosity has been the Little Edi Foundation, an Essex-based charity that provides essential support to disadvantaged families and children, both in the UK and abroad. The charity’s work includes distributing food parcels, school supplies and other vital resources to families in need.
Everyday items, extraordinary impact
This story highlights the huge potential of repurposing surplus stock. From mugs and notebooks to hygiene packs and headphones, items that might once have gathered dust in a warehouse are now making a real difference in people’s lives.
By donating via A Good Thing, Allwag has shown how businesses can reduce waste, strengthen communities and extend their positive impact far beyond the workplace.
