A ‘fresh’ start: 38 hygiene packs receive a new home

A Good Thing is an online platform that allows businesses to give things away to their local charities. Less to landfill, more to a good cause! The case study below is an example of the wonderful impact that can be made through these matches.

It’s always wonderful to see successful matches at A Good Thing, and Allwag Promotions Ltd’s donation of almost 40 hygiene packs to Re-cycle was just that.

Allwag, a branded merchandise company which offers sustainable solutions to its clientele, is a long-time user of A Good Thing. It has given away a numerous amount of items already in the two-and-a-half years that it has been using the platform, and continues to generously give wonderful charities a myriad of useful and reuseable items.

Allwag is a B Corp, a company “verified by B Lab to meet high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability,” and is also a member of the British Promotional Merchandise Association (BPMA), which has been a big supporter of A Good Thing. Allwag has signed the BPMA’s StepForward Pledge, a commitment which aids companies to install measures to become more responsible businesses.

“Hugely valuable”

Re-cycle, the recipient of these hygiene packs, is an amazing charity which sends bicycles (donated in the UK) to partners in Africa.

When submitting her request for the packs, Georgia Brown, Fundraising & Marketing Manager at Re-cycle, said,

“These packs would make such a difference in Africa. One of our partners in The Gambia supports a local medical centre that’s working with the bare minimum when it comes to supplies. I’ve been there myself and seen the need first hand – even something as simple as plasters goes such a long way.”

She also explained, “Re-cycle works with non-governmental organisations in rural Africa whose work also supports community projects, schools and medical centres – where even the basics like pens, books or paracetamol can be hard to come by. These particular hygiene kits were requested for one of our partners in The Gambia, to support the medical centre they run … it is very basic – so the kits will be hugely valuable for staff and patients.”

The donated packs contained crucial essentials like wipes, disinfectant, soap, shower gel, sterile plasters, latex-free gloves, dental kits and tissues.

“Simple” and “easy to use”

Georgia at Re-cycle was positive about her experience of using the platform:

“I do like using A Good Thing – it’s a simple way to connect charities like ours with useful unwanted stock … I find A Good Thing really easy to use and will continue making use of the platform … I’m always on the lookout, as everything I’ve received so far has directly benefited our partners overseas.”

Success stories like these are, for us, simply ‘refreshing’! However, they also highlight the great need that charities have for more recycled goods, and thus the need for more businesses to get involved and donate.
