Tens of thousands of helping hands (and gloves)!
A Good Thing is an online platform that allows businesses to give things away to their local charities. Less to landfill, more to a good cause! The case study below is an example of the wonderful impact that can be made through these matches.
Donor: Office Smart
Location: Cornwall
What was donated: 35,000 pairs of clear vinyl gloves
Sector: PPE and workwear
Charities that benefitted:
Angy Care Health Foundation
Harrowbarrow & Metherell Community shops
MB Community CIC
Don’t Just Bin It North Devon CIC
REMO
Rycroft Leisure CIC
Cornwall-based Office Smart joined A Good Thing in August 2025, after hearing about the platform from a local charity, the Merlin MS Centre in St Austell.
According to Andy Barry from the firm, he created his first offer straightaway, “when we heard we could help such a vast amount of people. It was so much more than clearing a shelf.” Andy told us his firm will certainly be using A Good Thing in the future after finding the whole process very smooth:
“It was only a few clicks, and we already had a listing. We would urge anyone to do the same – no matter how big or small the donation. Someone will be able to use it!”
Gloves for all
Office Smart is a PPE and workwear supplier: it donated 35,000 pairs of clear vinyl gloves via A Good Thing. They generously offered to cover the postage costs, meaning the gloves were able to be delivered to charities right across the UK.
One of the organisations that received gloves was Harrowbarrow & Metherell Community shops, a community hub in Cornwall. Karen from the charity explained that they were very happy with the gloves, and were planning to share them with their community.
The Angy Care Health Foundation based in Kent, is a charity dedicated to benefiting the public by providing relief to those facing challenges associated with ageing. Motilayo Omoniyi, founder and CEO, explained:
“These donations will help us enhance our office and outreach operations, allowing us to serve our beneficiaries more effectively and create a more welcoming environment for those who visit us. The donated items will be put to great use at our community hub, where we support older adults who are facing isolation, poverty, or health challenges.”
Motilayo told us the team at Office Smart were accommodating and incredibly kind:
“We would absolutely use A Good Thing again in the future. It’s such a fantastic platform that bridges the gap between businesses and charities in a meaningful way. I actually heard about A Good Thing via a fellow charity partner, who highly recommended the service, and now I can see why!”
Help for community connections and beyond
MB Community CIC is a community-driven social enterprise operating across London, with a mission to strengthen community connections. It’s focused on providing young people with skills, experience, and confidence.
Omari Chambers from MB Community CIC told us that his organisation will definitely be using A Good Thing again in the future, as the whole process was really straightforward and the platform made it easy to connect with Office Smart:
“The donation will be a big help in supporting our upcoming community sessions and events.”
Don’t Just Bin It North Devon CIC aims to prevent waste through initiatives like food and household item redistribution. This charity received a box of disposable gloves that have been “put to good use at our food bank, allowing our volunteers to handle food in a safe and hygienic manner”, according to Maz from the organisation.
A double donation for REMO
REMO is a social enterprise and charity based in Cambridgeshire, focused on creating creative, sustainable and useful products and services. REMO recently received a donation from furniture firm Ocee and Four Design via A Good Thing, as well as these gloves from Office Smart. Nikki DiGiovanni from REMO told us
“Both Office Smart and Ocee and Four were fabulous in that they sorted out the transportation of the donations, which we really appreciated – it makes it so much easier for us to access these precious resources. The gloves from Office Smart are being used by the team who make our RM and ReColour recycled paints. Having donations like these help us save money and create products that we can sell for fundraising purposes. The A Good Thing portal is especially user-friendly: once you’ve registered you get notifications when things on your wishlist are available.”
Getting crafty in Yorkshire
Yorkshire-based Rycroft Leisure CIC also received a donation of gloves, and Sandra Hull from the charity told us:
“We use gloves constantly at the centre. The youth club kids also make great use of them during painting and craft activities!”
Established in 2014, Rycroft Leisure aims to promote community participation in health and recreation by providing facilities for indoor and outdoor sports. Sandra told us:
“Office Smart has been wonderful – keeping in touch by email and offering to help again in the future. It’s such a great idea for businesses to support charities in this way. We always appreciate donations, as we rely on community footfall to keep us afloat.”
