High-quality, brand-new notebooks donated to eight charities across Northamptonshire

When a donation of 2,000 high-quality, brand-new A5 notebooks were listed on the A Good Thing platform, a positive impact was made on no fewer than eight Northamptonshire-based charities.

Vegan-friendly and sustainable

Cesca, a family-run UK manufacturer of vegan-friendly and sustainable gifts for the office and home, had over time built up a collection of excess notebooks: clients had cancelled orders, or overmanufacturing had taken place, and Cesca found themselves with notebooks to spare.

Not wanting to send these books to landfill, Cesca was inspired to donate through A Good Thing. Andrew, the CEO of Cesca, noted it was a “major sustainable advantage to have these books used and not wasted”.

Supporting eight local charities

Cesca was matched with eight charities local to the business across Northamptonshire. Andrew from Cesca shared that the listing attracted multiple requests, and that the firm “decided to support all the charities’ requests, by finding more items to donate and by dividing what Cesca had, following emails explaining each charity’s ideal need”.

Ailsa’s Aim, a recipient of Cesca’s donation, told us that the notebooks “have been put in palliative and end-of-life bags: these are delivered free of charge to patients in hospital.” Receiving a donation through A Good Thing meant that Ailsa’s Aim was able to give end-of-life patients goody bags that they otherwise could not afford.

The Mintridge Foundation collecting the donated notebooks

Off the Streets NN, another charity recipient of the Cesca donation, shared that the notebooks have been used in school and youth group safety workshops. In these workshops, young people use the notebooks to take notes on sessions that spread awareness about knife crime, critical blood control and gang grooming. Due to the scarcity of “free things”, donations have been a “godsend” to Off the Streets NN’s mission to prevent and tackle homelessness.

The Mintridge Foundation gave the notebooks donated by Cesca to Ambassadors and Mentees to use during “mentoring calls”. The Ambassadors and Mentees use the notebooks to further The Mintridge Foundation’s mission of emboldening every young person to have a positive relationship with sports.

Positive impacts

Cesca’s donation demonstrates how businesses’ redistribution of waste can be a massive help to charities, while reducing business waste and negative environmental consequences.
