Since joining A Good Thing in February 2024, Bio Laboratories has been building significant momentum on the platform, yielding thousands of donations to dozens of charities all over the UK. In this latest round of giving, we’ve seen over 5,800 essential items matched with nine different causes!
The smallest tools create the biggest shifts
250 pens were matched with Fika Welie Caribbean and African Mental Health CIC, a Stockport-based organisation providing culturally responsive mental health support across Greater Manchester. The charity’s founder, Paula King, told us:
“Sometimes the smallest tools create the biggest shifts – a pen can help someone rewrite their story through journalling and creative expression.”
The donated pens will be given to participants during Fika Welie’s workshops and wellbeing sessions, encouraging them to journal, reflect on themselves and engage. The charity is also distributing them at its women’s wellbeing session to celebrate International Women’s Day. The timing couldn’t have been better.
Up in Sleaford, New Life Church Ministries received 4,500 face masks for its food larder, community grocer’s and hub. This match served neighbouring charities, too, as Paul Staples told us:
“We also work in partnership with other local charities, so these face masks will be shared with them too.”
Meanwhile, MB Community CIC received 250 hand sanitisers for its developing community hubs – helping to create ‘welcoming, functional spaces for the community’ as founder Omari Alert explained.
Hundreds of Easiplasters were split between The Beacon Centre in Clayton and Yad Veachisomoch L'chaim, a Salford foodbank supporting hundreds of families. The Beacon Centre – which reopened in August 2025 after a devastating fire – will use the plasters across cooking classes, its ‘Men Zone’, seated exercise classes and its new gardening project.
Hundreds of goody bags
The Springhill Hospice Rochdale holds its annual golf day each September, and the 236 golf ball-shaped lip balms the charity received from Bio Labs will be going straight into goody bags for golfers. Joanne Ali from the Hospice told us:
“Donations like this one help us keep costs down, so more money goes directly towards patient care.”
Similarly, The Rossendale Trust, supporting adults with learning disabilities to live independently, received 260 nail polishes for its ladies’ lunch fundraiser. Sue Heaven at the Trust was happy to share her experience using A Good Thing so far, saying:
“We’ve received terrific support from A Good Thing over the last 12 months. The offer of the assorted bottles of nail polish came just in time for our upcoming fundraising ladies’ lunch. We provide our guests with free goody bags and these are a perfect addition to the selection of ‘goodies’ already in the bag.”
Caritas Diocese of Salford, a Catholic social action agency running homelessness services across Greater Manchester, received 180 lavender bath soaks and 160 shower gels. For someone staying at the charity’s Morning Star Hostel or accessing its Cornerstone day centre, a moment of comfort matters.
Down in Cornwall, Merlin MS Centre Ltd – the only purpose-built neurotherapy centre in the county – received 53 toiletry bags for its clients. The Centre offers physiotherapy, hydrotherapy and oxygen therapy to adults and children with neurological conditions.
A good thing, over and over
This is what a long-term partnership looks like. Bio Laboratories joined A Good Thing because it believes in sending less to landfill and more to a good cause. Since February 2024, the business has done exactly that – and done it dozens of times over. This case study is just one chapter in a much bigger story. We’re grateful to be part of it.
