Chairs saved from landfill while helping a brilliant local young people’s charity

Youth Concern is a charity based in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, whose mission is to support vulnerable young people so that they have the resources they need to lead ‘happy, healthy and fulfilling lives.’

Steven Mann, Director of Youth Services, was extremely happy to receive a set of chairs from Desktop Ideas Ltd, a British Promotional Merchandise Association (BPMA) member business that has joined A Good Thing as a supporter and donated many times to charities via the platform.

More than just a chair

The donated chairs provide more than just somewhere to sit: they are sources of comfort for young people in need. They give a reason for young people to sit down and open up, talk about how they are feeling and why. These chairs are vital for organisations such as Steven’s.

Steven took the time to talk us through the benefits these chairs can bring to young people needing support.

The process behind receiving the chairs

Steven emphasised how simple the process is to receive an item via A Good Thing:

“It was very easy, it is such a great platform and it operates perfectly.”

The charity received the chairs immediately the next day: “We could even have got them the same day if we wanted.”

Steven defined the process as efficient and effective:

“It’s a great process, making a difference to the charities and to the planet.”

“I will definitely be using A Good Thing going forward. I have now received four different listed items and hope to continue.”

Making use of the chairs

Youth Concern uses the chairs every day in its youth centre drop-in session. The centre was struggling to have discussions with young people, as they did not have enough chairs to facilitate ongoing projects. But with more readily available, the charity is able to do more with young people and help them in more ways. Steven even commented on the quality of the chairs, stating the good condition they arrived in - despite being secondhand.

Finally, when asked whether Steven would recommend A Good Thing to other charities, he responded incredibly positively, stating that he would recommend A Good Thing, in fact he has shared A Good Thing’s page many times now.
