Christmas is a time of abundance for many; with gifts, wrapping paper, bountiful feasts and decorations taking centre stage. The focus during the festive period is often on the new, with less thought given to waste, reuse and what happens once the festivities are over.
That’s why, just before Christmas in December 2025, it was so encouraging to see Excel London a major events venue based in east London and long-standing partner of A Good Thing, offer several beautiful artificial Habitat-branded Christmas trees to be redistributed via the platform.
The trees found new homes in charities across south-east England, lighting up halls and helping to make it a Christmas to remember for these communities.
Reunited and it feels so good
This isn’t the first time that Excel London has collaborated with A Good Thing. Over the years, Excel has donated colourful children’s furniture, play balls and journals, and has been a long-time annual paying supporter of the platform. They’ve provided important financial support that helps us continue doing the work we do and enables more local charities to benefit in the future.
Reuse and redistribution of surplus items is a core part of how Excel London operates. Through its partnership with A Good Thing, Excel is able to integrate reuse into event delivery, building on its more-than-10-year commitment to sending zero waste to landfill and reinforcing its desire to support local communities through its events.
Finding new homes for Christmas
One of the charities to benefit from Excel London’s artificial Christmas tree donation was the Angy Care Health Foundation a community-based organisation in Gravesend, Kent, that supports older adults by improving health and wellbeing, reducing poverty and creating opportunities for social connection.
The artificial Christmas tree made a real difference for the charity over the Christmas period. Founder and CEO of Angy Care Health Foundation Motilayo Omoniyi told us:
“For many of the people we support, Christmas can be a lonely time. Having the tree in our community space helped create a warm, festive atmosphere and brought a real sense of joy and togetherness. It became a talking point, sparked memories and made the space feel more welcoming and celebratory during the festive period.”
Excel London’s donation of several Christmas trees also went on to support other charities and community organisations, such as the Venture Community Association. Based in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, the Venture Community Association has supported children and adults in the local area for more than six decades, offering a safe space for play, cultural learning and creative expression, as well as a diverse range of adult learning programmes.
Finally, two trees found new homes at St John’s C of E Primary School in Croydon and the Empowering Deaf Society in Essex, where they were used to decorate for the Christmas period.
These donations are wonderful examples of how A Good Thing’s ongoing partnerships continue to turn surplus into something positive and memorable, creating moments of connection and togetherness at special times like Christmas.
