One year on: mugs and St Mungo’s
A Good Thing is an online platform that allows businesses to give things away to their local charities. The case study below is an example of the wonderful impact that can be made through these matches.
Donor: Bywaters
Location: London
What was donated? 46 mugs
Sector: waste management
Charity that benefited: St. Mungos
Long-lasting items
Many of the donations passed on to charities via our platform are items that continue to be used for months, even years after they’re received. This could be furniture, crockery, printers, T-shirts, artificial Christmas trees or speakers. At A Good Thing we love the idea of a donation impact spreading far and wide. When a business chooses to donate something through our app, they’re making a decision that can change lives and make a meaningful difference long into the future.
Mervin, Deputy Manager at the busy St. Mangos centre in Hackney, east London said:
“A Good Thing is a great provider for a service like ours”.
St Mungo’s is a lifeline for people experiencing homelessness across the south of England; the charity has been working on the front line for 55 years. It’s staggering to think that 43% of working renters in the UK are just one paycheck away from losing their home. St Mungo’s provides shelter, relief, advice and vital support for those facing this frightening reality – a situation that can arise far more easily than many of us realise.
It has now been a year since Mervin’s homelessness hub received a donation of 46 mugs from waste-management company Bywaters via the A Good Thing platform. We were keen to learn what difference those mugs have made. Mervin told us:
“We have found the donations incredibly useful; the mugs continue to be given to clients as needed. As a charity, we don’t always have access to the funds to buy the essential items that are useful and beneficial to our clients. The client group we work with often come from very deprived backgrounds, and in many cases come with trauma attached.”
One year on, Bywaters’ seemingly simple donation of mugs continues to have an impact on the lives of vulnerable people at St Mungo’s in Hackney. The A Good Thing platform connects brilliant charities like St Mungo’s with essential items their funding can’t stretch to.
If you’re a charity, our app can help fill the gaps. Or if you’re a business user of our platform, you’re supporting vital services that are working hard to plug the holes in our society.
