Volunteer spotlight! Charlotte Oglesby

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

Hi I'm Charlotte. I'm currently living in Manchester but have spent the past year travelling, with a highlight being visiting India for the first time. My career so far has been spent working in the housing sector and I'm looking for my next role to have a positive impact on society. I love spending my free time with family and friends, trying new restaurants, running and going to gigs. My current challenge is learning Spanish!

Why did you choose to volunteer with A Good Thing?

It was a combination of reasons. I'm in between jobs and looking for the next one, so I wanted a way to keep my brain busy and inspired while giving back in some way. I've only been volunteering with A Good Thing for a few months but I'm already incredibly impressed by the charity's impact.

What’s your role as part of the volunteering programme?

I'm working as a copywriter, so have been getting in touch with charities and businesses to hear about their experience of using A Good Thing and writing up case studies for the 'Impact' page of the website. Hopefully these stories will inspire more organisations to get involved using the platform.

What do you hope to learn from your volunteering experience?

I'm hoping to understand more about the voluntary sector, and how digital solutions can maximise its impact! I'm also looking forward to hearing about some of the creative ways that charities have been using their donations, which might inspire me as to how I can reduce my own impact on the environment.

Tell us about a success you’ve had in the role so far.

I find it so heartwarming hearing the warm words that the businesses I talk to have for the platform.
