Volunteer spotlight! Seren Evans
Tell us a little bit about yourself
I’m Seren, a Business Management with Marketing graduate from the University of Birmingham. I have worked in a variety of roles but have recently turned towards sustainability-based roles and am hoping to combine this with gaining experience in the third sector.
In my spare time I thoroughly enjoy being active by running and hiking, and I love travelling with friends as much as possible! I’m also a very proud, fluent Welsh speaker.
Why did you choose to volunteer with A Good Thing?
I was drawn to volunteering at A Good Thing for the simple reason that it’s driving a truly amazing cause and message! I am particularly passionate about reducing waste and redistributing unwanted items, and volunteering provides the opportunity to put this into practice while simultaneously supporting charities and those in need. I really like how A Good Thing promotes and facilitates a simple and effective way for businesses to send less to landfill and give back to the community.
What’s your role as part of the volunteering programme?
I am currently working as part of the outreach team, which involves contacting businesses with the aim of matching their resources with a local charity’s needs. I have also begun writing microblogs for A Good Thing’s social media pages, which I’m already enjoying.
What do you hope to learn from your volunteering experience?
I’m hoping to diversify my skills and learn a significant amount about the charity sector. I’d like to learn more about how charities operate by directly engaging with them and hearing how the work of A Good Thing impacts them and their stakeholders alike.
Tell us about the success you’ve had in the role so far.
A personal highlight so far has been successfully sourcing items for a baby bank in Cardiff. It’s nice to see how prepared local businesses are to support charities in a number of ways.
