“A sense of togetherness”: office donation brings communities together

At A Good Thing we make matches between businesses with items to donate and charities who can re use them. This is one of our recent matches.

A Good Thing is constantly inspired by the power of local generosity, and few demonstrate this better than D&G Office Interiors, a long-term supporter of A Good Thing based in Cardiff.

D&G is a company that takes sustainability seriously. Its commitment shows not only in its business practices, but also in how it chooses to give back. Instead of letting good-quality furniture go to waste, D&G recently listed five beautiful walnut storage units and three desks on our platform. Within days, the furniture found new homes at three brilliant community organisations across South Wales.

Thank you to the team at D&G Office Interiors for your ongoing support, and for leading the way in showing how businesses can make a real difference – for both people and the planet.

Homes that make a difference

The Wales & West Housing charity was one of the lucky recipients of D&G’s most recent donation. Resident Participation Strategy Officer Claire Hammond shared how the units have already made a difference:

“[The storage units] will be very helpful for us to organise paperwork at our Twyncarmel Food Pantry project in Merthyr, which helps families and individuals on low incomes. We have over 100 households supported by us.”

Wales & West Housing is dedicated to making a real difference to people’s lives, homes and communities. Managing over 12,500 high-quality, affordable homes across 13 local authority areas in Wales, it provides a wide range of housing – including more than 3,000 homes for older people and supported housing solutions for individuals with specific needs. At the heart of the charity’s work is a commitment to sustainable growth and meaningful community impact.

Introducing Sparkle

Sparkle also received some of D&G’s generous donations. Sparkle supports children and young people with disabilities and complex needs; donations like these help its team to focus on what matters most.

Sparkle supports hundreds of children and young people with complex needs across Gwent in South Wales, as well as their families. Sparkle ensures that every child has the opportunity to enjoy the same activities, experiences and support as their peers. Thanks to the kindness of donors and supporters, Sparkle continues to be a vital lifeline for families facing challenging circumstances – offering care, community and joy when it’s needed most.

Bringing people together

Meanwhile, the three desks were collected by the Taff-Ely Foodbank charity, which is putting them to good use as it continues to grow: it’s using the furniture in its new conference room, in a brilliant example of the A Good Thing community in action.

As Andrew Butcher, the Chief Executive of Taff-Ely Foodbank, put it:

“The donation and collection process was incredibly easy. We received items from two different companies and it was effortless.”

Andrew first heard about the platform via his Chair of Trustees, and was quickly sold on the concept:

“We need things, and companies are giving them away – why wouldn’t anyone want to sign up to that? It’s free and stops things going to landfill, so it’s great for the environment too.”

Beyond the practical benefits, Andrew told us that the impact has been felt within his team as well:

“Yes, it has changed the way we operate: I now have all my employees working together in the same room. It has brought about a sense of togetherness.”

When asked if he would use A Good Thing again, Andrew said simply, “most definitely”.
