Project Merchandise brings the party… and the purpose!
At A Good Thing, we love a good party – especially when the decorations come with a dash of purpose and meaningful social impact! Recently, our friends at Project Merchandise decided to clear out their stockroom and donate a delightful assortment of items through our platform.
Project Merchandise isn’t just generous – they’re also purpose-driven to the core. As a paying subscriber of A Good Thing, a certified B-Corp, and a member of the British Promotional Merchandise Association (BPMA), they’re serious about doing business the right way. They’ve also signed the BPMA’s StepForward Pledge, meaning they’re actively committed to making their operations more ethical, sustainable and socially responsible. Their generous donation through our platform is a brilliant example of how these business values can be put into action!
What went where? The match with YMCA
All these branded goodies found a new lease of life within the retail arm of the YMCA’s brilliant network of charity shops.
Party bits: blue party hats, Hawaiian garlands, party poppers, pizza boxes, and good old-fashioned yoyos – because everybody deserves a celebration!
Bags & practical gear: gym bags, tote bags, cushions, phone holders, and USB charging cables – all ready to be rehomed and put to good use.
Stationery supplies: black biros, sticky notepads, Sharpies, whiteboard markers, envelopes, address labels and more – to organise everyday tasks.
These donated items will be resold in YMCA charity shops across England and Wales, helping to generate vital funds to support the organisation’s incredible work with young people.
With over 100 charity shops, the YMCA retail network does far more than sell pre-loved goods! These spaces act as community hubs, raising money that supports more than 700 communities. The proceeds also help fund a wide range of essential services – from housing and accommodation to mental health support, education initiatives, and local youth clubs.
In 2022/23, the YMCA helped over 6,600 people live healthier lives through its services and awarded more than 9,400 qualifications to learners and apprentices. These donations show just how powerful some party hats and stationery items can be when they land in the right hands!
A Good Thing’s role
Facilitating this match between Project Merchandise and the YMCA exemplifies our mission: connecting businesses with surplus items to charities that can put them to good use. It's a win–win situation, where we can reduce waste and support our local communities.
