The cue to do good: a pool table finds a new home!

At A Good Thing, we believe sustainability is about more than just reducing waste – it's about building connections, empowering communities, and making the most of what we already have. Recently, we helped facilitate a match that was so perfect it practically writes its own story. A pre-loved pool table, no longer needed by sustainability pioneers, Bywaters, has found a new lease of life at Project Zero – an inspiring youth organisation committed to creating safe spaces for young people.

Meet the donor: Bywaters

Bywaters is a leading London-based sustainability and waste management company on a mission to create a world without waste. Through innovative recycling solutions, zero-to-landfill commitments, and long-term partnerships with businesses, they’re setting the standard for what responsible waste management looks like.

Their donation of a pool table is a great example of how sustainability can extend towards social initiatives. By supporting local community organisations, Bywaters is reducing unnecessary waste and making a real difference – proving just how powerful A Good Thing matches can be.

Meet the recipient charity: Project Zero

Project Zero is a youth organisation based in Waltham Forest. They aim to reduce antisocial behaviour and create positive futures for young people in the community by running weekly youth space sessions that offer mentoring, employment support, alongside sports and creative activities.

Connor from Project Zero told us: “This pool table will be used at our weekly youth space sessions and would be an amazing way to engage with our young people at our centre.”

We were thrilled to match this charity with the donation – and even more delighted when we heard back:

“It was extremely easy to operate through each stage of the donation.

The Project Zero team is now creating a new space for the pool table, ready for action during their popular youth programmes. We’re told it’ll be a centrepiece at upcoming events – and we cannot wait to see the photos once it’s set up and in motion.

Feeling inspired?

This is exactly what A Good Thing is all about: giving perfectly good items a second life, saving them from landfill, and giving local communities access to the resources they need to thrive.

Project Zero’s story reminds us that sustainability isn’t just about the environment. It’s about people, opportunity, and the ripple effects of a simple act of giving. Remember, every donation has the potential to do good things!

So, from us, a massive thank you to Bywaters and Project Zero. And if you’re reading this and thinking “I’ve got something to give” – we’re ready when you are!
