Four marvellous matches in the capital

A consistent contributor: the Business Design Centre

The Business Design Centre (BDC) is the unparalleled home of live events across the year in London. Not only does it offer this grand space, but the company is also a B Corp, meaning it is committed to making the economy regenerative and equal. With the firm’s constant donations via A Good Thing, there is no doubt about its commitment to sustainability.

Being an A Good Thing annual subscriber means the BDC is truly able to make a difference to diverse lives across the capital. Recently the BDC found itself with a large number of products it deemed ready for donation. Kirsty, a conference executive, said this of the donation:

“These items were leftover from conferences or exhibitions that had taken place in our venue, and were donated to avoid them being thrown away.”

These items? Well, they included:

  • 28 flipcharts

  • 6 jigsaws and 4 board games

  • a box of branded umbrellas

  • a big box of greetings cards

And we were thrilled when these donations were matched with four special charities.

A sustainable solution – Ronald McDonald House Charities

The first was Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC), which received the flipcharts. As a charity that provides a safe place for families, close to children’s hospitals, it is clear it offers much-needed support at tough times for loved ones.

Richard from RMHC explained how these flipcharts would be used “in meetings and training sessions”.

Importantly, using our platform has allowed the charity to save money:

“The flipcharts have saved the charity money: the money saved can be put towards other things.”

Two other charities benefited from the BDC’s donations:

  • Bizzie Bodies, which runs creative workshops for young children, received 6 jigsaws and 4 board games to use.

  • Quaker Social Action, a charity that offers help to those experiencing economic hardship, collected a box of umbrellas that will aid those on the street to stay dry.

The final recipient: Hello Beautiful Foundation

Finally, greetings cards moved across London to the Hello Beautiful Foundation, a charity that focuses on providing classes and a space to help people with cancer. Among the workshops provided by the charity is art therapy, an event held within the organisation’s own art gallery. Jane, the charity’s founder, commented on how these cards would be welcomed in this space: “we could use the cards in our art therapy workshops”.

Most notably, the cards would serve as an integral part of the charity’s 62-day ‘Breast Cancer Unite’ festival, as Jane explained:

“The cards will help participants express their emotions and will support mental well-being. The cards are beautifully made and filled with meaningful messages.”

These cards will ensure that women will be able to express their feelings within a safe space.

Four charities, f(our)ever grateful

We have seen here how one business’s generosity and commitment to being sustainable has positively impacted the charities around it, creating a community.

Here at A Good Thing, we are committed to connecting companies and charities to ensure that nothing ever goes to waste.

As Richard from RMHC said: “Thanks for providing the service you do, I think it’s a great scheme.”
