Volunteer spotlight! Isa Spigarolo
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I’m Isabel, though most people call me Isa. I’m originally from a small town in Friuli, in northeast Italy. I work as a freelancer in operations and startup support, and earlier this year I chose to pivot my career towards the climate sector. I also love bird-watching and listening to podcasts about sustainability and personal growth.
Why did you choose to volunteer with A Good Thing?
When I first came across A Good Thing, it immediately caught my attention. I’m passionate about sustainability and circular economy projects. Volunteering here gives me the chance to support charities, as well as businesses that want to do the right thing by donating surplus items.
What’s your role as part of the volunteering programme?
I support charities by reaching out to local businesses to see if they have the items needed. More recently, I’ve also started helping the team as a copywriter, working on match success stories to share on the website.
What do you hope to learn from your volunteering experience?
I want to learn more about how charities and CICs operate, while also developing my stakeholder engagement and storytelling skills.
Tell us about a success you’ve had in the role so far.
A highlight for me was reaching out on a charity's behalf, and a city manufacturers’ group then shared the request in their newsletter, reaching 8,000 businesses. Even when businesses can’t always help directly, it’s inspiring to see how they still try to support in other ways.
